Meet Our Mediators
Our mediators are ordinary people who live or work in the Eastbourne, Wealden and Lewes areas and give their time to help people resolve their disputes. They come from all sections of the community, all walks of life and any age 18 years and above. Some of our mediators are retired, others work full or part-time, but all have the desire to give something back to the community.
All our mediators complete our accredited mediation training course, are DBS checked, and many have additional specialist mediation skills and training in areas such as workplace, family and commercial mediation. Our mediators usually work in pairs and are supported by our central office management team.
Here are what some of our mediators say about why they became involved:
"Decades ago I somehow managed to get an honours degree in Psychology from Glasgow University. Together with an almost morbid desire to try & see both sides of an argument, I feel Mediation and I were made for each other, especially with the reward of hopefully empowering others to discover a clearer way forward in their relationships." Steve - Eastbourne
"I have been a mediator for six years. When I first heard about the job, I realised that, as a teacher and headteacher, I had been mediating for most of my professional life. There is sometimes a perfect solution to a problem - but more often it is helping people to improve what at first sight seems an impossible situation. When this happens it is very rewarding." Mike - Heathfield
"I used to think success in an argument was about winning, I now realise ending a dispute and moving on is a more meaningful resolution. A little give and take with respect for another view point, allows this to happen; it’s a rare situation where one is totally in the right." Leon - Eastbourne
