What is Mediation?Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution where a neutral third party (usually two mediators) helps two or more people to understand each other and to recognise that they can find their own resolutions to conflicts. These could be between neighbours, within families, in school, at work, or between people doing business with each other. Mediation is being increasingly recognised as an effective way of problem solving that can help avoid the costly and lengthy process of legal proceedings or employee tribunals. Our trained volunteer mediators help those in dispute to identify needs, clarify issues, explore solutions and negotiate agreements. The mediators act as facilitators, helping people to work out a solution that is realistic, practical and workable. The decision making rests with the parties involved - the mediation process is entirely voluntary. Benefits of Mediation
